Bill Campbell Studios
Bill Campbell has been a potter for over 40 years, and in 2021 he retired - so the work we have now is the last we will ever have. This makes me very sad, as we have carried his work for almost as long as we have been in business.
The glaze he uses is incredibly fussy about the body it resides upon. It often crawls, blisters and crazes and the color isn't always reliable. Though demanding it is, however, just too vibrant and exciting to simply dismiss as too troublesome. This means that everything must be technically perfect in order to achieve its full potential. He has had to learn clay production and firing techniques that are not used in most studio potteries to achieve this.
Bill also has a crystalline glazes he calls Flambeaux or Stellar. Each piece is unique and exciting. Crystalline glazes develop as the pottery cools, so it is as inexact and dynamic as his regular glaze. The crystals can be subtle, with a small scattering, or huge, reminiscent of ginko leaves, lily pads, or sand dollars.
